In 1993, I set up a riding center in the beautiful Andalucia region of Spain and have never looked back. I was born in the New Forest, England and have ridden all my life. I own and run the trekking centre and am a qualified horse riding guide and instructor and I live at the ranch with my family.

Route details

You will transfer from Malaga or Granada airport (cost not included) to the tiny spa town of Lanjaron, "the gateway" to Alpujarras.

Your accommodation for the night will be at the Alpujarra Guesthouse high in the mountains and close to the Ranch. These small mountain cottages have a swimming pool for use during the summer months.

Dinner prepared by your host and cook, Emily, at the simple and beautiful local guesthouse.

Hotel, guesthouse, or Cortijo accommodation can also be arranged in the local town of Lanjaron.

This horse riding holiday is suitable for all levels from complete beginners to advanced riders.

You will spend your two days of trekking through the hills and mountains and your instructor will guide you in the basics of riding if you are a beginner to help you develop your balance and control over the horse to help to create a harmony between yourself and the horse.

As for intermediate to advanced riders, you will have the chance to develop your existing skills with plenty of opportunities to canter and gallop. Due to the stunning countryside and mountain trails, trekking is a big focus here and you can ride to your heart’s content.

While in Lanjarón, you will be accommodated at a Spanish farmhouse or hotel near the spa town, where people come from miles around to take the waters which are said to contain minerals for eternal youth. Just 45 minutes’ drive from Granada. The pool is normally open by Easter but if it is a very warm spring, it can be open earlier (depends on the weather). The accommodation provides Wi-Fi as well.

The horses were very well trained and calm. My guide Judith guided me perfectly during the whole trip. All the places I stayed and the people there made me feel at home and the food was excellent. At first I was a bit scared to go on a riding vacation alone in another country. But I had a very nice, relaxing and adventurous vacation. Jane, Steve and Emily, who made my transfers to my accommodation, are very kind and helpful people. Sharon and Bongo are equally excellent. Thank you for all this wonderful organization : )

I have just returned from a wonderful vacation with my two daughters organized by Sarah and her team. Everything was very well organised after and we were looked after from the moment we arrived. We had an incredible time with your horses, thank you. We just wish we had ridden for more days! Finn was an excellent guide and took great care of us. The girls absolutely adored spending 6-7 hours riding each day. The scenery was breathtaking, and we're still enchanted by the lovely aroma of wild herbs as we traversed the mountains! Emma at the stables was also delightful.
