Peneda Gerês Park Beginners Trail

Breakfast provisions will be provided for you to enjoy at your convenience. Typically, at 10:00, you'll be picked up and transported to the stables on the opposite side of Castro Laboreiro, a short drive of around 10 minutes.

During the morning session, you'll delve into understanding equine behavior and the appropriate human interactions (using body language) to ensure safety, emphasizing a partnership approach with the horses rather than treating them as mere tools. This will include initial lessons on ground handling of horses, familiarization with tack (saddles and bridles), and your first riding experience. You'll focus on achieving balance, correct body posture and refining your use of hands and legs to guide the horses effectively.

Lunch will be served in the guest house gardens. In the afternoon, you'll visit the National Park visitor center to enhance your understanding of the area you'll be exploring on horseback. 

Dinner will be provided at the Country House.

Riding: 1-2 hours

Today we will ride outside for a walk to practice your learning from the first day and to become more comfortable in the saddle.

Enjoy lunch in the mountains before returning to the riding center. Additionally, you can choose to participate in a meditation class at our Country House.

End the day with dinner and stay overnight at our Country House after approximately 2-3 hours of riding.

After breakfast we will be learning how to put the halter and manage the horse on foot and how to trot.

We will have lunch in the gardens of the guest house. In the afternoon, there will be a non-riding visit to the old historical Melgaço village which is known for its old churches and castle. Along the way, you stop at the Alvarinho Centre to sample the wonderful, fresh local white wine. A typical Portuguese wine, the Alvarinho wine is one of the most important varieties of the Tart Wine Region. A true top-quality wine.

Dinner and overnight accommodation will be at the Country House. The riding portion of today's activities will last about 2-4 hours.

We will start this day riding outside at walk and trot to practice what you have learned so far, during this ride you will find and observe the behavior of wild horses.

A picnic lunch will be enjoyed in the mountains before returning for a dinner and overnight stay at the Country House. The riding time for this day is approximately 2-3 hours.

We'll spend the morning riding and learning how to canter.

The lunch will be served at the gardens of the guest house. In the afternoon we'll have a non-riding visit to Castro Laboreiro medieval Castle and Peneda pilgrimage sanctuary and village. This huge and beautiful sanctuary in the middle of the mountain was built in the 18th century.

Additionally, there will be an opportunity to participate in a yoga relaxation class at the Country House. 

Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at our Country House. The day's riding activities typically last about 1-2 hours.

We'll spend the whole day on a trail ride in the mountains to practice and enjoy all the knowledge you have gained during the riding clinic. Prepare for a 3-4 hours ride.

A picnic lunch will be enjoyed in the mountains before returning for a farewell dinner and overnight stay at the Country House.

After breakfast you are transferred to the airport.
