Ring Around the Midnight Sun

Following breakfast, we prepare our horses for our initial riding adventure, which leads us into the Fnjóská valley, home to Iceland's longest freshwater river. We traverse the river using an old bridge and continue our journey through the valley. Although the valley is narrow, it presents a diverse range of landscapes. Along the way, we savor the sound of the rushing water and observe countless birds tending to their young.

After a scenic lunch in the valley, we head back to our farm for coffee and cakes. Our riding time today totals about four to five hours. Following our refreshments, we visit the renowned turf houses of Laufás, offering insight into traditional Icelandic life. We then return to the farm for dinner and an overnight stay.

Riding: 4 - 5 hours

After our morning meal, we will travel towards Eyjafjörður, the longest fjord in Iceland. Following the Gljúfurá river, we will reach the Höfði hill, a relic from the ice age, which we will encircle during our four-hour journey. We will admire stunning views from various angles and keep an eye out for whales during our breaks. Eyjafjörður is renowned for whale watching, especially for humpback whales, harbour porpoises, minke whales and northern bottlenose whales. Along the way, we will also catch a glimpse of Hrísey, the second largest island in Iceland, which lends its name to the fjord.

After a coffee break at the farm, we will mount our horses once more and enjoy a brief ride near the farm. Our time in the saddle will be approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours. We then return for dinner and an overnight stay.

Riding: 4 - 6 hours

Today, we will embark on a day-long horseback ride lasting four to five hours to the coastal area of Látrastönd. During the ride, we will traverse steep cliffs, clear brooks and lush green valleys. Our lunch break will be spent near the ruins of the old farmhouse Svínarnes, which was inhabited until the mid-20th century and serves as a reminder of past life. From this vantage point, we can admire the breathtaking view of Hrísey Island, Eyjafjörður fjord and the open sea, with the possibility of spotting whales or shy seals.

Following a coffee break at the farm, we will head to the Grenivík swimming pool to relax in the warm water while enjoying stunning views of the fjord and surrounding mountains. We then return to the farm for dinner and an overnight stay.

Riding: 4 hours

Today, we are heading to the well-known area around Lake Mývatn. We will explore the pseudo craters of Skútustaðir, the unusual lava formations of Dimmuborgir and the bubbling mud pools of Námaskarð. On our way back, we'll visit the historic waterfall Goðafoss, which played a significant role in Iceland's Christianization around 1000 AD.

After dinner at the farm, we will saddle up our horses for a two to three-hour ride around the farm. Around midnight, we will find a lovely spot to enjoy the midsummer night with our horses. We will spend the night at the farm.

Riding: 2 - 3 hours

Today we will journey up to the mountains and into the remote valley Fjörður. Fjörður is an enigmatic and uninhabited countryside. Each year, only around 4000 sheep spend the summer here, along with the mythical creatures trolls and elves. Place names like Trölladalur, the valley of the trolls, and Álfaborgir, the cities of the elves, serve as reminders of the presence of these unseen beings. 

From the ascent of Leirdalsheiði, we will enjoy a stunning view over Eyjafjörður fjord, the fishing village Grenivík and the surrounding farms. Our journey will take us through verdant valleys, alongside rushing rivers and over rocky paths. Extinct volcanoes, serene glaciers and hidden waterfalls will be our companions along the way. In the late afternoon, after about four to five hours on horseback, we will return to the farm.

Following a coffee break, there will be time for a leisurely walk around our farm before bidding farewell. We return to the farm for dinner and an overnight stay.
